Biography: In a remote Japanese village, a mine ventured too far into the dark caverns of the Earth. One by one, miners began to vanish. The culprits behind the mysterious deaths was a species of insect, Meganulon, that hadn’t existed in millions of years. However, they were merely a preview of the prehistoric terror to come. Two massive, flying reptiles were hatched from an egg older than time itself. The winged dinosaurs, the Rodan, began to travel the Earth. They caused massive damage worldwide before focusing their wrath on Tokyo. The pair left the metropolis completely ruined before returning to their lair within the caverns of Mount Aso.

As the beasts slumbered, defense forces were deployed and began to rain hellfire down upon the mountain. The insane amount of firepower triggered a volcanic eruption, swallowing both prehistoric titans within lava flows. However, only one would die…

Nearly half a decade later, the surviving Rodan returned. It once again began to fly around the globe before confronting Godzilla at the base of Mount Fuji. Their battle was broken apart, however, by the arrival of Mothra. The guardian’s pleas for peace so that they could combine their strength and focus their might against King Ghidorah fell on deaf ears… at first.

When the larval Mothra ventured off to fight the hydra herself, her bravery inspired both Rodan and Godzilla. The monsters challenged the king of terror and sent the three-headed demon back into the depths of space. After the war, Rodan returned to its caverns, but the winged warrior was called back to action just a year later. The Xillians, the occupants of the mysterious Planet X, needed Godzilla and Rodan to defeat an all too familiar foe: Ghidorah. The Earth allowed the kaiju to be taken and used against the hydra, but the aliens had far more sinister plans…

Ghidorah was merely one of their tools of destruction, and now they had Godzilla and Rodan too! The Earth was in danger as all three wrecked havoc, but when the Xillians’ weakness was discovered, the beasts were freed of their slavery. Godzilla and Rodan were quick to attack the golden kaiju and all three plummeted into the sea. Thereafter, the battle was over. Ghidorah emerged and flew back into space while Rodan mysteriously vanished. Sometime after, the samurai of the sky was captured and placed on Monster Island in the Pacific Ocean. When that was destroyed by nearby atomic bomb tests, the Ogasawara Islands were transformed into the new Monsterland facility where Rodan has been kept ever since.

Eyes of the Earth

From the journal of Dr. Otani,

Easily the oldest species of kaiju known to man, Rodan is a fascinating creature. They, and by “they” I mean he for the female was slain in 1959, had been observed feeding on both man and animal. Since his capture, the male has shown a strict diet of fish and dolphins, making us believe that the species thrived in costal regions during the age of dinosaurs. Unlike most birds, Rodan is capable of diving directly down into the water to the point of total submersion and then fly out. This is a remarkable evolutionary trait that penguins have long since lost. If one would shrink the Rodans down, they could very well be the missing link between reptiles and birds.

Rodan’s intelligence seems to be pretty high up there, enough to actually speak with his co-kaiju. This further reinforces my theory on Godzilla’s nuclear energy affecting the brains of kaiju he has prolonged exposure to. His exposure to Godzilla in 1964, even taking several point blank face shots by his beam, quickly increased his intelligence to the point of being able to “hold” conversations with other monsters. Some of my colleagues don’t agree with this theory, but I’ll wait for further theories on how Godzilla, Anguirus, and Rodan suddenly achieved human-like intelligence.

Eyes of the Kilaakians

A dangerous monster this Rodan is. This monster’s ruling of the sky is unparalleled. A perfect guardian for our coming fleets. With Rodan under our control, the humans will stand no chance. This creature represents everything we Kilaakians believe in. A will to survive, the knowing of loss, and the lack of support from its fellow beings. Once this battle is over and humanity is extinct, we will set free all of the kaiju. Rodan will no longer be confined to the small airspaces of Monsterland, but be able to roam the world anew! In the mean time, I have ordered Rodan to be deployed to Moscow and a secondary team to locate the remains of the dead one, I believe we may be able to use it somehow…
